Lobsters Coming Early to Maine! See You in June!
According to the Portland (Maine) Press Herald this past Thursday, there is a good chance the 2016 lobster season will start "extremely early."
Researchers say warmer waters in the Gulf of Maine indicate that lobsters will arrive weeks sooner than usual, triggering the beginning of the season in June, rather than in July as is customary.
For those of you planning on eating some lobster during your holiday in Boothbay Harbor this year (and who isn't?) this is great news. There is definitely less hustle and bustle in the town during June than in July and August and if that's combined with low prices on lobster dinners, lobster rolls, lobster mac and cheese, etc., travelers to our town win on both counts. By June, the Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens are open and in full bloom, the Balmy Days ferry to Monhegan Island is operating (after June 6th), and most of the excursion boats are operating daily.
June is an excellent time to visit Boothbay Harbor - the lobster will be waiting!!!
