At First It Came as a Surprise . . .
Little known fact number seventeen (at least to me): The Boothbay area is a very popular wedding destination.
I became aware of Boothbay's popularity as a wedding venue when, over the past few months, Bayberry House has played host to several wonderful young ladies who were deep in the wedding planning process. At first I thought, why in the world would someone travel from Boston, New York, or even Austin, Texas, to tiny Boothbay Harbor, Maine for the most important day of her life? Surely, there has to be a more exotic locale that would make a bride's special day even more memorable?
Then I caught myself, stopping to consider everything Karine and I have experienced since we have had the good fortune of moving to Boothbay Harbor. We have grown to love the quiet of the Land Trust Forests, broken only by the sigh of the wind rustling massive pine boughs or the rhythmic tapping of the occasional woodpecker. We have been amazed by the diversity of the breathtaking seaviews from different points from East Boothbay to Southport. We have also been warmed by the friendliness of the local people and the justifiable pride they hold for a town that is a jewel of small-town Americana. The longer I thought about it, the more I realized these canny young women have selected one of the world's most beautiful and romantic spots in which to be married. The perfect place for a perfect day.
Lauren, Patti, Tina, and Katie, we wish each of you and your husbands-to-be all the happiness in the world. We know that your special day in Boothbay will only be the beginning of a fantastic life together.
